February 9th, 9:35 pm

I was walking by Popeye's tonight, and as I approached, a Popeye's worker was bringing out a bag of trash. I quickly assumed the role of "person who needs to stop to send a text message." My fingers tapped away as my eyes followed Popeye's worker as he threw the trash onto the curb and went back inside. He returned shortly with a second bag of trash that he placed next to the first one. (Editor's Note: The Popeye's worker didn't rip the bag open and dump chicken parts and deep fryer remains onto the sidewalk.) I remained as my alter ego for a brief moment before seamlessly evolving into "person who's finished texting." I strolled by the bags of trash, noting that everything inside was paper garbage, probably from Popeye's customers. The food refuse must come out later. But when is later?  Though it's probably a bunch of smoke and mirrors, Popeye's trash succeeded tonight in not being unbelievably revolting.

  1. Thanks for the post, JH. It's important to present a fair and balanced picture of the Popeye's on West 40th Street. I passed POW40 around 6:30 and there was nothing at all in front of Popeye's. Maybe they have taken note of our citizen's action blog and cleaned up their act!
